We pressed around 4 tonnes of local apples this year. The 150 year old scratter, belt driven by our 1929 Lister stationary engine made short work of pulping the apples ready for loading up the cheeses on the press.

Our ancient 'Somerset Pattern' press then gracefully squeezed several hundreds of gallons of pure naturally organic apple juice.

On Saturday 23rd October, over 250 visitors attended to watch the processing of the apples into the amazing fresh juice; with many taking advantage of tasting it as it ran off the press. The ooh's, aah's and wow's were the most expressed reaction to the tasting!!! You can't beat the wonderful taste of fresh raw apple juice - nothing added, nothing taken away and no artificial processes applied to alter the flavour.

We wish to thank those who gave a donation towards our aims and took home some fresh raw apple juice to enjoy later. Those who purchased bottles of our pasteurised apple juice will of course be able to enjoy it well over a year later, while also helping us raise funds to keep the old press and machinery going. Again.... thank you for supporting us!

Date for next years festival - Saturday 22nd October 2022 Mark it on the calendar!

Take care........ Porlock Apple Press Group

The 'rule of six' gathering limit stymied our plan for limited demonstration pressings. There will be something for all ages, and you really must buy some of the raffle tickets to get the chance to win some lovely prizes donated by local Porlock businesses.

This is a not-for-profit community event that gives a learning experience (especially for the young ones), and an opportunity for local artisans and crafts persons to show their talents.

There will be some fab crafts persons attending, so there will be the opportunity to buy some really different, bespoke early Christmas presents too!

We give away the fresh apple juice from the press (but the 1 litre plastic containers cost us 57 pence to buy - so we invite you to at least donate the cost for each container you might take... please!). You need to remember that the fresh juice is unpasteurised, meaning nothing added, or takien away. Treat it like milk... keep it refridgerated and consume within 3 or 4 days. Should you wish to keep the juice for longer periods we advise that it be frozen as soon as you can. Once thawed the juice will be good for immediate consumption, and again kept like milk but for the remaing period of the original 4 days from fresh.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 20th October - Porlock Old School Centre/ Visitor Centre....
